Your Monday Blip 10/19/20

It will be a busy week for earnings reports but markets today were spooked by rising covid infections plus the ongoing stimulus roller coaster ride. Markets opened the day higher but at the close the Dow was off 410 points at 28,195. Trading volume was lower for the day.
Seattle based Alaska Air has announced it is starting a new service in Alaska that will use the Brazilian made Embraer E175 jets to service regular routes from Anchorage and Fairbanks to Dillingham and King Salmon. The jets hold 76 people and the new service comes at a time when people in Alaska need improved transit of fishing industry workers in the Aleutians. Shares of Alaska were up early on the news and gurus are saying that with no international exposure and a low cash burn rate of $4 million per day, Alaska Air could survive and emerge as a leader when the airline industry gets on the other side of the pandemic.
Speaking of pandemic recovery, TSA Checkpoint data from this weekend showed that over a million people went through airport security which is the highest number since April and is up 10X from the low set back then.
This Saturday we completed phase one of a planned Eagle Project. This was the easy part as the scouts removed brush, trash and litter behind a local church. This coming Saturday they will level the area and bring in gravel. The scouts had a good time and it’s fun to watch the scout leader of the project organize and direct the other scouts. It’s like watching someone herd cats.
