Your Monday Market Blip 11/30/15

Last week the Dow Jones Industrial Average was flatter than a pancake on extremely light trading volume. The Thanksgiving holiday is traditionally super quiet and this year was no exception as the Dow gave up 25 points over the course to the week to hold right at the 17,798 level. For the month of November the Dow gained three tenths of a point but for the year it is off about a half of a percentage point.
Trading on Monday kicked off with an uptick which gave way to some selling. The Dow worked both sides of the street during the day but fell into the close and posted a 78 point loss to 17,719. Trading volume was higher.
Amazon today released a video of its “Amazon Prime Air” drone delivery system. This is wild. Check it out at: http://www.amazon.com/b?node=8037720011
Meanwhile the traditional brick and mortar retailers had a rough “Black Friday” as sales numbers were off slightly from last year’s BF. Overall sales however were up 14.4% for the weekend after Thanksgiving as online shopping was a big winner. Online purchases via mobile devices were up significantly and this shows how shopping habits are starting to change. While this shopping season will last right up until Christmas the early numbers reveal decent sales but instead of delivering blows with competitor shoppers at Wal-Mart for the Star Wars toy or big screen TV, more folks are now letting FedEx deliver the package right to the door. I wonder if Santa will start using Amazon too?
