Your Thursday Market Blip 2/7/19

Concerns over slowing global economic growth pushed markets lower after Germany reported an unexpected decline in its industrial production. The Dow responded with a high-volume selloff dropping 220 points to 25,169. Energy stocks fell on news that Russia rejected formal ties with OPEC. Utility and regional bank stocks were higher.

First it was the autonomous flying taxi and now it’s a supersonic passenger jet! What’s next, a hoverboard or a flying DeLorean complete with flux capacitor? Boeing released photos of its investment into a supersonic passenger jet which it hopes to have in the air by 2022. Two large regional banks today announced the biggest bank merger in 10 years. BB&T and SunTrust, both based in Atlanta, GA are getting hitched in a merger valued at $28 billion. The deal signals the possible start of a wave of bank mergers in the regional bank space which includes US Bank, KeyBank, Regions, Comerica and Umpqua.
